K'taka takes steps to curb illegal liquor transport

Bangalore, Aug 26 (PTI) The Karnataka Government today said surveillance would be intensified at the check post near Karwar area bordering Goa to curb illegal transportation of liquor into the state.

"Illegal liquor from Goa continues to be transported into Karnataka, prompting the government to strengthen its squad.

Also, people from Karnataka go to Goa to drink and purchase liquor as it costs less in that state," Minister for Excise M P Renukacharya told reporters here.

A letter has been sent to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa for his nod to recruit 60 security personnel to augment staff for the mobile squad at Karwar, he said.

The duo is now headed to the trademark office. Vinod Chopra Films Pvt. Ltd, producer of the two Munna Bhai films, has filed a raft of applications to trademark the two names under various product categories—from tobacco, rugs and carpets to automobiles, retailing, leather goods and baby foods.

It has also filed trademark applications for firearms, ammunition and explosives, medical instruments, promotional materials, cards, carrybags, furniture, kitchen utensils, clothing, and dozens of other products.
