K'taka takes steps to curb illegal liquor transport

Bangalore, Aug 26 (PTI) The Karnataka Government today said surveillance would be intensified at the check post near Karwar area bordering Goa to curb illegal transportation of liquor into the state.

"Illegal liquor from Goa continues to be transported into Karnataka, prompting the government to strengthen its squad.

Also, people from Karnataka go to Goa to drink and purchase liquor as it costs less in that state," Minister for Excise M P Renukacharya told reporters here.

A letter has been sent to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa for his nod to recruit 60 security personnel to augment staff for the mobile squad at Karwar, he said.
